Rita Skeeter's punishment is only one instance of the horrible mistreatment of Goblet of Fire's women. Though this is just revenge for Hermione, Skeeter's punishment begins the trend of disproportionate punishments for female characters throughout the remainder of the series. At the end of the text, Hermione traps Skeeter in a jar for weeks or months. That is, a trans person sneaks into places she shouldn't in order to spy on children, whom she also prefers to trap alone when possible. ![]() She then is revealed to be an unregistered animagus who turns into a beetle to get her scoops. Her first appearance features her dragging the titular character into a broom closet and sitting far too close after having forced Harry to come with her against his will. Even this could be excused as a character aspect if not for the fact that Rita is unsubtly implied to be a pedophile. All of this could be taken as a description, but Rowling's perceptions of trans women make Rita more likely to be a description of a man in drag, complete with over-the-top hair and clothing. ![]() Her hands are said to be large, she is stronger than she should be, and her jaw is said to be manly. ![]() To begin, Rita in Goblet of Fire is described with decidedly mannish features.
